Gas Appliance Servicing, Repairs & Type A Compliance

Skud Plumbing delivers fully licensed Type A gas appliance servicing, diagnostics, and certified safety testing across domestic and commercial properties.

Gas fitting and Type A appliance servicing are strictly regulated under Australian law to protect lives and enforce national safety standards. Under the Gas Safety Act and Plumbing Regulations, all gas tasks must be executed exclusively by licensed professionals. General plumbing licences do not grant permission to perform gas servicing or installation. Unlicensed gas work is a serious offense carrying heavy legal penalties.

Understanding Type A Compliance & The Law

Appliance Scope: Type A appliances cover domestic and light commercial systems, including cookers, space heaters, wall furnaces, ducted centxral heaters, and hot water units.
Specialised Licencing: Technicians must hold a specific Type A endorsement on their licence card issued by regulators like Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) or the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC).
Mandated Standard: All Type A servicing must strictly comply with AS 4575.
Mandatory Documentation: Upon completion, the licensed gasfitter must legally log the service record and issue an official Certificate of Compliance.

The Risks of Unlicensed Work

Hiring an unendorsed handyman or general plumber creates immediate, dangerous liabilities:

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Poisoning: Faulty systems spill deadly, odourless gas. Endorsed professionals use electronic CO analysers to perform precise negative pressure and spillage tests.
Voided Insurance & Warranties: Insurance providers reject claims and manufacturers void warranties if unlicensed workers tamper with your gas systems.
Rental Penalties: Under the Residential Tenancies Regulations, landlords must conduct comprehensive gas safety checks every two years via a specialized Type A practitioner.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mick from Skud plumbing was recommended to us by the company building our new kitchen, and we were not disappointed!
We could not have been happier with Mick, the work he carried out for us and our interactions with him. He was extremely fussy, professional in his approach and did a great job cleaning up.
We will be using Skud plumbing for our next renovation and recommend Mick to anyone needing plumbing work done

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mick replaced our hot water system for us this week, on fairly short notice, saving us about $1000 from the other quote we’d received, and got us an upgraded model. He was on time, friendly and just got to it. I worked from home and he worked for about 4 hours and didn’t need to bother me at all. I had to duck out and he finished while I was out, sending me a detailed message of what had been completed. I got back and the site was clean and no trace of discarded materials. Thanks Mick will def use again!
